Smyrna High School Basketball

Head Coach:  Brian Turner

Coach Turner returns for his 2nd year as the head coach of the Smyrna Bulldogs. In his first year as head coach, he led the Bulldogs to their 1st region semifinal game in 12 years. Turner is in his 20th year of teaching and coaching. He has coached and taught at New Smyrna Beach High School in Florida and at Stewarts Creek Middle. Turner says "I'm happy to be back home at Smyrna High School again. This is where it all started for me." He spent his first 7 years coaching and teaching at Smyrna High School

Turner's wife, Tonya, is also an educator and has been teaching at Wilson Elementary for 7 years. He has a daughter, Ashley, who is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee, and a son, John, who is a sophomore at Smyrna High School.

Brian Turner graduated from MTSU in 1990 where he earned his bachelor's degree. Coach Turner in his spare time enjoys spending time with his family, watching his son play sports, taking vacations, and playing golf occasionlly.

 

Assistant Coach: Chad Caldwell

Coach Caldwell is in his 10th year overall as a member of the Bulldog Coaching staff. Chad played at Smyrna from 99-03 then became a volunteer coach at Smyrna assisting with both the freshman and varisty. After graduating from MTSU in 2008 Coach Caldwell accepted the Freshman Basketball Head Coaching position and began teaching Wellness at the school. Coach Caldwell coached the freshman team for three years before becoming strictly an assistant for the varsity team. In his spare time, Coach Caldwell likes to golf, hang out with friends and family or attend Vanderbilt sporting events. Coach Caldwell lives in Smyrna with his wife Ashley, and four year old daughter Hadley. He is also a member of the Old Jefferson Church of Christ in Smyrna

 

Assistant Coach: Tyler Short

Coach Tyler Short is in his 4th year of coaching his 3rd year as the head JV coach. Coach Short is a graduate of Smyrna High back in 2009 where he played basketball all 4 years. He is also a recent graduate from MTSU where he received his degree in Behavioral and Health Science in December 2014. Hobbies include spending time with friends, being outdoors, and watching college basketball. Coach Short currently lives in Smyrna

 

 

Freshmen Coach:Chucky Richardson 

Coach Richardson is in his overall 13th year of coaching at a variety of levels and his 10th at Smyrna High School. He is in his 4th year of being the Head Freshman Coach. His 11-12 team won the freshman district tournament.He graduated from Smyrna High in 2000 and played basketball all four years of high school and also played football three years. Coach Richardson played football at Tennessee Tech from 01-03, received his associates degree from Motlow State in 2007, and is currently finishing his degree with Ashford University. Coach Richardson has many hobbies including playing pick up basketball, video games, and spending time with friends and family. Coach Richardson lives in Smyrna with wife Jennifer and daughter Bre
